Wedding favors are given by the couple to their guests as a sign of appreciation for joining in their wedding celebration. It was first noted that the tradition of giving wedding favors started in Europe among the royalties or aristocrats. The tradition involves the giving of small boxes (called bonbonniere) which is made from crystal, porcelain or precious stones. Inside these delicate boxes were generally sugar cubes (at those times, sugar is a high-priced commodity and only the rich people can afford it) or delicate confections, which symbolize wealth and royalty. |
